Glass Fencing

Frameless and semi-frameless glass pool fencing for bayside Brisbane homes

Glass Pool Fencing in Birkdale and Eastern Brisbane

Glass fencing keeps a pool compliant without walling off the view. For bayside properties around Birkdale, Wellington Point and Manly, where the outlook is half the reason people bought the place, that matters. Universe Fencing Brisbane East installs frameless and semi-frameless glass pool barriers using toughened safety glass and marine-grade stainless or powder-coated hardware.

Every panel we install is Grade A toughened safety glass, heat-soaked and tested, with polished edges. The barrier is set out to meet Australian Standard AS1926.1, which covers panel height, gap tolerances, the non-climbable zone and self-closing gate hardware. We handle the set-out, the core drilling or base fixing, the levelling and the certification paperwork your pool inspection will ask for.

Salt air is hard on fixings. Properties close to Moreton Bay need hardware specified for the exposure, so we use 316 marine-grade stainless spigots on coastal jobs rather than the cheaper 304 grade that pits within a few seasons. It costs a little more up front and saves replacing the whole run later.

Why Choose Glass Fencing

  • Clear sightlines to the pool, so children stay in view from the house
  • Makes small yards feel larger by removing the visual barrier
  • Keeps the bay and garden outlook intact on bayside blocks
  • Toughened safety glass that resists impact and weather
  • Nothing to paint, stain or re-seal, just an occasional wash
  • Compliant with AS1926.1 pool barrier requirements
  • Adds genuine resale appeal around a pool or deck

Glass Fencing Options

Frameless Glass

12mm toughened panels held by floor-mounted spigots, with no posts between panels. The cleanest look available and the most popular choice for new pools in Cleveland and Wellington Point. Suits concrete, paved and decked surrounds.

Semi-Frameless Glass

10mm toughened panels set between slimline posts. You keep most of the view at a lower cost than frameless, and the posts give the run extra rigidity on uneven or sloping surrounds.

Glass Balustrades

Balustrade systems for decks, balconies and stairs, with or without a top rail. Common on the elevated Queenslanders and new builds through Wynnum and Manly where the bay view is the feature.

Glass Wind Screens

Fixed glass screening for patios and alfresco areas that catch the afternoon sea breeze. Blocks the wind without darkening the space or closing in the outlook.

Where Glass Fencing Works Best

  • Pool barriers needing compliance plus an unobstructed view
  • Bayside blocks where a solid fence would block the water outlook
  • Deck, balcony and stair balustrades
  • Compact courtyards that benefit from a sense of openness
  • Alfresco and patio wind screening
  • Feature sections combined with aluminium or Colorbond elsewhere on the boundary

Frequently Asked Questions

Is glass pool fencing safe for children?

Yes. We use Grade A toughened safety glass, which is several times stronger than ordinary glass and breaks into small blunt pieces rather than shards if it ever fails. Installed to AS1926.1 with the correct heights, gaps and self-closing gate hardware, a glass barrier is as compliant as any other pool fence, with the added benefit that you can see the pool from the house.

What is the difference between frameless and semi-frameless?

Frameless uses thicker 12mm panels fixed to spigots in the ground, with no posts in between, giving an almost invisible barrier. Semi-frameless uses 10mm panels held between slim posts. Frameless looks cleaner and costs more; semi-frameless keeps most of the view for a lower price. We will quote both so you can compare.

How much maintenance does glass fencing need?

Very little. Wash the panels with warm soapy water or a hose when they look dusty or spotted, and rinse the spigots occasionally if you are near the water. There is no painting or sealing. On coastal jobs we recommend a fresh-water rinse of the hardware every few months to clear salt build-up.

Will glass fencing work on a sloping or uneven surround?

It can. Glass panels are rectangular and cannot be raked, so a slope is handled by stepping the panels, which needs careful set-out to keep every gap inside the compliant tolerance. Semi-frameless often suits steeper falls better. We assess the levels on site and tell you honestly if a stepped glass run will look right or whether aluminium is the better call.

How long does installation take?

Most residential pool runs are installed in one to two days once the glass is on site, assuming the surround is finished and ready. Panels are made to measure, so allow time between the site measure and installation. We confirm the lead time when you accept the quote.

Can you remove our old pool fence at the same time?

Yes. We take out the existing barrier, remove the footings and cart everything away as part of the job. We have an excavator and a large team, so demolition and disposal happen in the same visit rather than being left for you to organise. See our fence removal service for details.
