About Universe Fencing Brisbane East
Birkdale based, QBCC licensed, and set up for the jobs other fencers pass on
Our Story
Universe Fencing Brisbane East is the bayside arm of Universe Fencing, the same business behind universefencing.com.au and Universe Fencing Brisbane. Same crew, same QBCC licence, same way of working. We opened the Birkdale base because enough of our work was already coming from the eastern suburbs that it made sense to be local to it.
Driving across town for the job itself was never the problem. It was everything around it: coming back to check a level, dropping off a colour sample, getting out to a fence that went over in the night. All of that is a different proposition from twenty minutes away than from an hour and a half. So there's now an address at 10 Kamala Pl, and the bayside gets the same response time as everywhere else we work.
What that means for you is an established business with a track record rather than a new operator finding its feet, working out of your own area.
What We Build For
There are a handful of things about fencing on this side of Brisbane that you only learn by working here, and they change the spec rather than just the sales pitch.
Much of the Redlands sits on reactive clay. It swells after a wet week and shrinks back in a dry month, and a post set in a shallow or undersized hole moves with it until the fence has a visible wave in it. We dig deeper than the minimum, size footings to the soil we actually find, and bell the hole out at the base so it can't lift.
Close to Moreton Bay the salt load matters. Panels are rarely the issue; the fixings are. 304 stainless pits within a few seasons out here and bright steel nails bleed rust down new palings in two summers. Near the water we use 316 marine-grade stainless and hot-dip galvanised fixings as standard. You won't see it on the finished job and you'll notice it in a decade.
Then there's wind. An exposed boundary at Manly, Lota or Wellington Point catching a south-easterly puts real load on a fence, and a 1.8m run is effectively a sail. That load goes into the posts, so we don't stretch post spacing to win a price. If we're dearer than another quote, that's often why.
No Job Too Big
Plenty of fencing outfits are one or two blokes and a ute. That works fine for twenty metres of paling fence, and less well for an acreage boundary, a failed retaining wall, or a site that needs clearing before anything new goes in.
We run an excavator and a large team. On the ground that means footings come out in an afternoon instead of over a weekend, long runs get set out and built by a crew rather than a pair, and demolition plus construction happen in one engagement instead of two contractors and two waiting periods. If a job has been quoted as too big or too awkward elsewhere, it's worth a call.
How We Quote and Work
- We quote on site, not over the phone, because the fall, the soil, the access and the salt exposure are what drive the price
- Once the number is agreed it's fixed, so there's no variation on day three
- Site visits are free and there's no obligation either way
- We'll give you a written quote you can hand to a neighbour for a shared dividing fence
- We turn up when we said and work the job through rather than disappearing to another site
- The old fence and all the rubbish leaves with us, with metal recycled where we can
- QBCC licence 15433253 is public, so check it on the register rather than taking our word for it
- We'll tell you when the answer is a repair rather than a replacement, or when another material suits your site better
What We Won't Do
We don't handle asbestos. Older fibre cement fence sheeting may contain it, and removal is licensed work under separate regulations. If we identify suspect material on a site visit we stop and tell you, so you can engage the right contractor. We'll happily build the new fence once the site is clear.
We also won't quote cheap by cutting the things that decide whether a fence lasts: footing depth, timber treatment level, hardware grade and post spacing. We'd rather explain the difference and lose the job than build something that fails in five years with our name on it.
Where We Work
From Birkdale we cover Thorneside, Wellington Point, Ormiston, Cleveland, Raby Bay, Alexandra Hills, Capalaba, Wynnum, Wynnum West, Manly, Manly West, Lota, Tingalpa, Thornlands, Victoria Point and Redland Bay, plus acreage further out at Sheldon and Mount Cotton.
Worth knowing that this area straddles two councils. Tingalpa and Wynnum sit in Brisbane City; Birkdale, Capalaba and Cleveland sit in Redland City. Approval thresholds and setbacks for retaining walls and front fencing aren't identical between them, so we confirm which rules apply to your address before anything gets built. There's more detail on our coverage and the council boundary.
