Where Is Universe Fencing Brisbane East Based?

We work out of 10 Kamala Pl, Birkdale QLD 4159. That puts us roughly in the middle of the bayside, about ten minutes from Wynnum, Wellington Point and Capalaba, and fifteen to twenty from most of the Redlands.

Suburbs we cover

Our regular patch runs through Birkdale, Thorneside, Wellington Point, Ormiston, Cleveland, Raby Bay, Alexandra Hills, Capalaba, Wynnum, Wynnum West, Manly, Manly West, Lota, Tingalpa, Thornlands, Victoria Point and Redland Bay. We also take jobs further out at Sheldon, Mount Cotton and the bay islands, though for island work the logistics change the quote and we'll explain how.

Beyond that, we're part of a group that covers most of Brisbane, so if your job sits outside this area we'll still be able to help through Universe Fencing or Universe Fencing Brisbane.

Two councils, different rules

Something worth knowing about this part of Brisbane: the area is split between Brisbane City Council and Redland City Council, and the boundary runs between suburbs people think of as neighbours. Tingalpa and Wynnum are Brisbane City. Birkdale, Capalaba and Cleveland are Redland City.

It matters for retaining walls and for anything near a front boundary, because approval thresholds, setbacks and height limits aren't identical between the two. We work in both regularly, so we know which set of rules applies to your address and we'll tell you before anything gets built. Getting that wrong is an expensive way to learn.

Why local actually matters here

Not as a slogan. Three concrete reasons.

First, conditions. The Redlands is largely reactive clay, which swells wet and shrinks dry and will move a footing that was dug to the minimum. Close to Moreton Bay the salt load is high enough that 304 stainless hardware pits within a few years and bright steel fixings bleed rust down a new fence in two summers. A contractor who works out here specs around both without being asked. One who doesn't, won't.

Second, exposure. Boundaries at Manly, Lota and Wellington Point take a real belting from a south-easterly, and a 1.8m fence is effectively a sail. Post spacing and footing depth carry that load. We've seen which fences come down each storm season and which don't.

Third, response. Being twenty minutes away rather than ninety means we can get back to check a level, drop off a colour sample, or get to a fence that's gone over in the night. That's the whole reason we opened a base here instead of continuing to drive across town.

Getting to you

We quote on site. It's not us being difficult, it's that the things driving the price out here don't show up in a phone description: how much fall is across the boundary, whether the excavator can get down the side, what the soil does when we start digging, how close you are to the water, and what has to come out before anything goes in.

Site visits are free and there's no obligation. We'd rather spend half an hour getting the number right than quote blind and vary it later.

Hours and contact

We're on the tools Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm. Call 0485 064 951 during those hours and you'll generally get one of us rather than a call centre. Outside hours, use the form on our contact page and we'll come back to you.

For storm damage, ring rather than emailing. After a big blow everyone calls at once, but a large team means we can usually get someone out to make a dangerous fence safe sooner than a one-man operation could.

What we can do once we're there

Timber, Colorbond, aluminium and glass fencing, gates and automation, retaining walls, and removing whatever's there now. The full list is here. If you're weighing up whether it's time, these are the usual triggers.
